Bond reduced for Berkeley County deputy accused of sending explicit image to minor

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Bond was reduced Thursday for a Berkeley County (W.Va.) Sheriff's Department deputy who is accused of sharing a sexually explicit image of himself with a teenage boy with the intent of seducing the minor via social media.

Thomas Wade Carroll, 43, of Shepherdstown Road in Martinsburg is charged with single felony counts of distributing obscene matter to a minor and use of obscene matter with intent to seduce a minor, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Carroll's bond was reduced Thursday to a $35,000 cash or surety bond. He was being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.

He was released from Eastern Regional Jail near Martinsburg shortly after Thursday's bond-modification hearing in Berkeley County Circuit Court, according to court and jail records.
